Baltimore Ravens vs New England Patriots 2010 NFL Playoff Predictions, Picks & Odds: The Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots are set to go at it today in a Wild Card clash at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The two teams met back in week four, also in New England, and the Pats walked away with a 27-21 win. The Ravens will attempt to exact some revenge and advance to the Divisional round when things get underway at 1:00pm ET on CBS. 2010 NFL Playoff Predictions, Picks & Odds at online bookmaker BetUS.com have the Patriots listed as a -3 against the spread home favorite.
Baltimore comes into today's game with a 9-7 overall record, but also some positive momentum after having won three of
its last four games. Granted, it was not a murderous lineup the Ravens played to close out the season, facing Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Oakland, but the team did what it needed to do. Now they need to beat a squad that disposed of them in week four and that has not lost a home game all season long.
The Ravens will probably employ the same formula they did the last time they faced the Pats as they had Bill Belichick's squad on the ropes late in the game. Baltimore had more yards (363 to 319), more third down conversions (nine to four), and it averaged 6.8 yards per rush. Unfortunately for Head Coach John Harbaugh, his club also had two costly turnovers and nine penalties compared to New England's five.
Running back Ray Rice, who had 11 carries for 103 yards, will, most likely, see a heavier load this time around in attempt to work on a defense that has yielded 110.5 yards per game on the ground.
New England, which comes into this Wild Card tilt with a 10-6 record and AFC East title, will, no doubt, have a few tricks up its sleeve, especially given the close nature of its last meeting with Baltimore. However, those tricks will not involve one of their best offensive weapons, wide receiver Wes Welker. Welker was placed on IR after injuring his knee in last week's loss to Houston.
Tom Brady, who will be playing with four broken ribs, completed 21 of his 32 pass attempts against the Ravens back in October for 258 yards and a touchdown. He will probably be just as active today, looking to get deep against an Ed Reed-less secondary (may be used off the bench). Randy Moss, who had three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown in the last dust up with Baltimore, may shoulder more of a load than normal whether catching the ball or serving as a decoy.
Do the Ravens have enough to stop the Pats at Gillette, where teams are averaging just 12.9 points per game this season and have not tasted success since November of 2008? Probably not.
2010 NFL Playoff Betting Trend: The Patriots are 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread over the last five years as a home favorite coming off a road loss. The Over is 8-1-1 in Baltimore last 10 games as a road underdog with a spread between 0 and 3.5. The Patriots are 4-0-1 against the spread and 5-0 straight up in their last five games as a home favorite with a spread between 0 and 3.5 in the month of January.
