New Orleans Saints 2010 Superbowl Line, Predictions & Picks: The New Orleans Saints begin their quest for the franchise's first Lombardi Trophy this afternoon as they take on the Arizona Cardinals at the Superdome. Sean Payton's squad garnered home field advantage throughout the Playoffs with a stellar regular season run, but all that will be for naught if they are unable to get by the resiliant Cards. Odds makers and the betting public are looking for them to do that, though, as the Saints are the favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl at +325 moneyline odds. New Orleans' postseason history has been one fraught with peril, which has served to make the team a perennial underdog New Orleans Saints 2010 Superbowl Line, Predictions & Picksin the eyes of football fans. However, the Saints find themselves in a different role this year after putting together a 13-3 season and leading the league in almost every offensive category. The Black and Gold, under the direction of quarterback Drew Brees, averaged 403.9 yards and 31.9 points per game. Brees, for his part, threw for 4388 yards and 34 touchdowns (11 interceptions) while completing 70.6 percent of his passes.

The Saints defense, while not to be mistaken for the Jets unit, performed reasonably well this year after being one of the worst groups in 2008. Opposing teams averaged 357.8 yards and 21.3 points per game against them, but New Orleans ranked third in the league in interceptions (26) and fifth in the forced fumbles (13). Not only did the Saints' defense create plenty of turnovers, they also capitalized on them, returning five picks and three fumbles for scores.

New Orleans will have to overcome the psychological impact of their three straight pre-playoff losses if the team is to make an appearance in Miami on February 7th. The Saints lost back-to-back home games (their only two losses at the Superdome this season) to Dallas and Tampa Bay before falling in the regular season finale to Carolina in Charlotte. Payton did rest his starters in the last game, but the two setbacks at home had to be disturbing, especially considering the Saints high-octane offense puked out plenty of exhaust in those outings (34 points combined).

The Saint, which are 6-2 straight up and 4-4 against the spread at the Superdome, are 2-6 all-time in the postseason. However, they are 1-1 in the Playoffs under Payton, including a 27-24 Divisional round home win over the Eagles in January of 2007.
