Will the Seattle Seahawks Fly in the Frozen Tundra?

by Alexander Banks on Saturday, January 12th, 2008

The Seattle Seahawks leave the comfort of home in NFL Picks Playoff action as they visit the Green Bay Packers for the second time in post season.  The last time they lost in overtime back in 2004.  Seattle is in the post season for the fifth consecutive season and it is due in large part to the huge season that QB Matt Hasselbeck as he set team records for yards total passing yards (3,966), completions (352) and attempts (562) and is going to his third Pro Bowl in five years.  Not bad for a player who was a sixth-round draft choice and wasn't even invited to the league scouting combine.  Hassellbeck has certainly gotten the attention of the Packers defense as safety Al Harris commented "He's the best player on that team."  Sportsbook.com has the Seahawks listed as a +7.5 road underdog.

Hasselbeck got his start in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers as he spent his first two years of his career there before moving on to Seattle in 2001.  When asked about going back to play the Packers in the playoffs again he was quoted as saying "It's a very special place to me,"…….. "If it wasn't for that organization, I wouldn't be in football. I'd be wearing a suit. It's the best venue in sports."

Naturally with his head coach Mike Holmgren having coached both Favre and Hassellbeck he invariably gets asked to compare the two quarterbacks.  Before answering he pauses a bit and then offers the following:  "Montana, Young, let's throw them all into the pile. I've been very fortunate to coach a lot of great players at that position and they're all winners.

The Seattle faithful hope that Hassellbeck can erase his previous loss in the playoffs to the Packers and have the Seahawks flying high.
