Many folks probably don’t give the Jacksonville Jaguars much of a chance in this weeks NFL Picks Playoff game versus the unbeaten New England Patriots. However, before plopping down the dough on the Patriots consider that the Jaguars come into this one with the most productive running attack in the NFL. No matter how much the Patriots can score it will be a bit tough if Jacksonville can kick their running game into gear and keep the ball away from the Brady Bunch. Even when they don’t have the ball the Jaguars will be throwing at the Patriots the 6th ranked scoring defense in the league this season. Aggressiveness will be the key for Jacksonville to slowing down Brady and receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Philadelphia had success rushing Brady and lost by only 31-28. Apparently the public doesn't think an upset is in the cards as BetOnline.com as the Jaguars listed as a +13.5 point road underdog.
Jacksonville has a massive defensive front line and love to play smash mouth football. In fact QB David Garrard was quoted as saying about head coach Jack Del Rio’s team "I think he's really built this team into the same way he played the game," ……."physical, smash-mouth." Even Patriot head coach Bill Bellichick commented on Jacksonville’s physical play and size stating: "Their whole team is like that. The big physical Jaguars just might be playing on the minds of the smaller New England squad as Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was quoted "They create a lot of issues with just a four-man rush because they never, ever stop coming,"……… "Probably the biggest challenge that we're going to face up front is not only being physical and matching their aggressiveness, but also finishing every play like they do."
The Jaguars are a wild-card team not used to postseason success. Last weekend's win at Pittsburgh was their first in the playoffs since 1999. But will all that matter this weekend?
