NFL Playoffs: New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys

by Alexander Banks on Sunday, January 13th, 2008

NFL Playoff Picks: New York Giants vs Dallas CowboysIn a rematch of NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys play host in an NFL Picks Playoff contest to the New York Giants.  This will be the third time that these two teams have met this season with the Cowboys taking the first two earlier in the year.  The Cowboys were cruising along at 11-1 after beating Green Bay and were expected by most to be a lock for a Super Bowl birth.  However, over the last month of the season they stumbled badly going only 2-2 SU that included a last minute win over the Detroit Lions and being held to no touchdowns against both the Eagles and Redskins.   Part of their offensive woes could be the absence of Terrell Owens who caught 81 passes for 1,355 yards and 15 touchdowns.  Dallas also comes into the playoffs on a horrible cold streak as they haven’t won a playoff game since 1996 and are 0-5 in the postseason since then.  The Cowboys have dominated the Giants this season however, as QB Romo threw for four touchdown passes in each of the previous meetings.  The last time they met in Texas the Cowboys were able to put 45 points on the board.  That might be a factor in the line as Bodog.com has the Cowboys a -7.5 point favorite.

The New York Giants ride into Texas with a franchise record eight game road winning streak. The Giants' only road loss this year was the loss to Dallas in the first game of the season.  However, even going 8-1 SU their L9 road games the Giants are only 4-4 in their last 8 visits to Dallas.   Last week marked a milestone for the Giants as they won their first playoff game in three years under head coach Tom Coughlin.  In addition, QB Eli Manning won his first postseason contest after poor performances in playoff losses to Carolina and Philadelphia the previous two seasons. Although the Giants eventually lost to the unbeaten New England Patriots Manning might have gained confidence he needed as he threw four touchdown passes in that game. He also seemed to play with confidence against the Buccaneers last week as he completed 20 of 27 passes for 185 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against the league's top pass defense.

Surprisingly, even though the Cowboys and Giants have been rivals since the early 1960s and have met 91 times in the regular season this game will mark the first playoff meeting between this two.

Can the Giants continue the winning or will Dallas finally give their faithful a playoff victory?
