Super Bowl Predictions: New England Patriots -425 Odds to Win

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, January 17th, 2008

The New England Patriots along with the general public believe that anything short of an Super Bowl Predictions Victory in the Super Bowl will be a failure.  Taking a perfect 17-0 mark into this weeks action the Patriots are hoping that the San Diego Chargers will be nothing more than a speed bump in the road to the Super Bowl.  At times during the later part of the season the Patriots didn’t look like the invincible team that most “experts” had believed they were, but none the less, they still managed to win every game.  It is due to that fact that Sportsbook.com has listed the Patriots as a huge -425 money line favorite to become the only team in NFL history to go 19-0.

Last week it was believed that the powerful Jacksonville Jaguars would be able to out physical the Patriots and force them into nothing but a passing offense.  There certainly was a valid thought to that as the last several games New England was not able to move the ball on the ground.  In fact, there were thoughts that playing at home with the possibility of bad weather would be the downfall of them since they were an offense built on passing.  Well, that notion was quickly dispelled as they ran over the Jaguars to the tune of 145 yards with 5.0 yards per carry average.  Not to mention Brady breaking a playoff completion percentage record when his completed 26 of 28 passes.  All of this versus a Jacksonville defense that was ranked #6 during the regular season in yards given up per game.

The Chargers however could derail the Patriots as they come in riding an 8 game winning streak and a running attack that sports the top rushing back in the league.  They will need every bit of that running game as they will try to do what most other teams have not been able to do, and that is to keep the Patriot offense off the field and prevent them from scoring.

The public seems to continue to think that once again the Patriots have an overmatched opponent as this week they are listed as a big -13.5 point spread favorite and a -700 money line favorite.  No wonder they continue to be the prohibitive favorite to capture another Super Bowl trophy at a -425 money line favorite.
