For the Saints to make the Final they have to get past the Minnesota Viking. They have not played in the Brett Favre era, but the Vikings won their last meeting 30-27 on the road, on October 6, 2008. The Saints shut down the Cardinals last week 45-14, at home, with their defense and their league leading offense that was firing on all cylinders.
QB Drew Brees made 23 of 32 passes for 247 yards with three TD passes. RB Reggie Bush looked as healthy as ever while juking defenders on his way to a season-high 84 rushing yards on five carries. Bush showed off his ability to make defenders miss on a 46-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and again on his punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Bush added four catches for 24 yards and had a 36-yard average on three punt returns. Their fourth ranked pass game will go against the Vikings 19th ranked pass defense and their sixth ranked ground game goes against the Vikings second best rush defense. The Saints are 7-2 SU at home where they average 33.2ppg and allow 20.7ppg.
For the Jets to join the party they have to get past the Indianapolis Colts first. They last played on December 27, 2009 where the Jets beat the Colts 29-15 at home. The Jets RB’S Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene ran over the Colts 202-64 yards, while the Colts out passed the Jets 213-91 yards. QB Mark Sanchez made 12 of 19 passes for 106 yards, while the Colts QB Peyton Manning made 14 of 21 for 192 yards. The Jets got where they are by winning in San Diego 17-14. QB Mark Sanchez joins Joe Flacco (last season) as the only rookies in NFL history to win two playoff games as a starter. Sanchez made 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards with one TD pass. For the second straight playoff game, Jets rookie RB Shonn Greene came through with another 100-yard performance, rushing 23 times for 128 yards and a touchdown. His 53-yard score was the longest playoff run in Jets franchise history.
The Jets are the Cinderella story in this year’s playoffs having won two playoff games, on the road as roaddogs. They enter against the Colts with the league’s best defense that shutdown the high powered offense of the Chargers and the Patriots. Their constant blitzing and ability to pick off interceptions is the reason why they’ve come this far. Safety Jim Leonard pulled down his first of the season, while CB Darrelle Revis made his sixth, second in two playoff games. They lead the league against the pass and they’ll be facing the Colts second ranked pass game. The Jets are 7-3 SU on the road where they average 23.2ppg and allow 15.4ppg.
Point-Spreads.com 2010 Superbowl Picks: Saints vs Jets Betting Odds
The Bottom Line: If the Vikings can shutdown Drew Brees with their defense, I like Vikings. I like the Jets over the Colts, defense wins Championships and the Jets are all about defense.
