NFC Championship Prop Bets

by Thomas Jensen on Sunday, January 20th, 2008

NFC Championship Prop BetsWith most bettors getting down on sides and totals, the NFL Picks Experts of Point-Spreads.com decided to take a look at the various prop bets betting offered in the 2008 NFC Championship Game between the New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers.  The “Frozen Tundra” of Lambeau Field will play host for the NFC Championship Game giving the Packers a clear advantage playing at home.

“It appears that the weather will be a factor so both side and total could be a crap shoot,” stated Point-Spreads.com NFC Picks Expert Michael Alexander of Alexander Sports when asked to comment on the various NFC Championship prop bets available on the New York Giants vs Green Bay Packers showdown.  “However, there are some great opportunities to cash in with some of the lessor known opportunities.”

Green Bay is listed as a 7-point favorite and the Total set at 40½ by SportsBetting.com. The early betting public has been pouring in money on Packers at a clip of 70% of all bets being made thus far.

“I'm not sure the public is taking the best value with the side bet,” stated Point-Spreads.com Football Picks Expert Reno Gold when asked to comment on the various prop bets being offered on the NFC Championship Game.  “The reason I say that is the elements might be a factor in the way of record cold. I think that could keep the score down making a seven point line pretty bing. I am also leaning toward to UNDER on the total.”

With snow being forecast and lows of 3°F, the ground game becomes more important; but if the defense knows you’re going to run they will stack the line making it hard to move the ball down the field. It’s likely a combination of the weather conditions and the expected intensity of a playoff battle that has bettors predicting a slower start, as 60% of the money is on the “No” side in this one.

Will Either Team Score in the First 7 Minutes of the Game
Yes -115
No -115

Doesn’t someone always score in the last two minutes of the first half? We feel like they do, and the bettors are feeling the same way as 85% of the public are banking on a score before the clock winds down to zero headed into half.

Will Either Team Score in the Last 2 minutes of 1st Half
Yes -200
No +160

The Pack rank first and second in the playoffs in terms of points a game and yards a game and they have Brett Favre at QB so it probably comes as little surprise that bets are coming in on Green Bay at a 70% clip.

Giants vs. Packers – Team to Score First
Giants +130
Packers -160

As opposed to the AFC side, where bettors were all over the option of a long TD, they are more reserved with the Over in this match-up. Again the weather may factor into how the action is going on this prop as 57% of bettors at SportsBetting.com are wagering on the Under option.

Giants vs. Packers – Longest Touchdown of the Game
Longest TD – Over 39.5 (-115)
Longest TD – Under 39.5 (-115)

Hate to sound like a broken record but once again, snow, wind and cold aren’t friends of kickers and No is seeing action at a 64% clip.

Giants vs. Packers – Will Both Teams Make 30 Yard or Longer Field Goals
Yes – +130
No – -160

Despite the high Vig, the Over is still getting a majority of the action with 80% of bettors wagering on 4 sacks or more and with the likes of Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora up front for New York, it’s easy to see why.

Giants vs. Packers – Total Sacks by Both Teams
Total Sacks – Over 3.5 (-180)
Total Sacks – Under 3.5 (+140)

Eli Manning has been extremely efficient these playoffs, passing for four TDs, zero Interceptions and earning QB ratings of 117.1 and 132.4 the past two games.  However, the public have good memories and he wasn’t so sharp on many occasions during the regular season. 63% of the players are banking on Eli throwing a pick first.

Eli Manning – What Will He Throw First
Touchdown Pass -135
Interception – +105

Despite the grey hair, Brett Favre is playing like he did in the nineties, most recently going 18 of 23 for 173 yards, three TDs and zero INTs against Seattle.  With the Giants injury-riddled secondary, and despite weather conditions that might not be ideal for the passing game, the betting public think Favre will have a decent day throwing the ball, as the Over is seeing action at a 69% clip.

Brett Favre (Packers) Total Completions
Completions – Over 21 (-125)
Completions – Under 21 (-105)
