For the second year in a row there is going to be a Manning in the Super Bowl as NFL Results have the New York Giants beating the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime in the NFC Championship game. In the third coldest Championship game on record Eli Manning continued his good pay in the playoffs as he completed 21 of 40 passes and didn’t throw a single interception. In fact the New York Giants, once again, didn’t have a single turnover in the game. The New York running game was enough to keep the Packers off balance as the tandem of Jacobs and Bradshaw rushed for a combined 130 yards on 37 carries. WR Plaxico Burress was the big story for the Giants and he shredded the Packer secondary catching 11 passes for 154 yards.
After a great season at the age of 38 Brett Favre threw a critical interception in overtime to give the Giants the football in Packer territory that eventually led to the game winning field goal. Favre finished the game completing 19 of 35 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. But he had two interceptions one of which was the game loser for the Packers. Their running game was non existent all game long as last weeks hero Ryan Grant was held to a meager 29 yards on 13 carries.
The New York Giants have now won and NFL Results 10 games in a row on the road to become the first team in history to do that. In what might have been a smart move for head coach Tom Coughlin in the last game of the regular season he played his regulars against the unbeaten New England Patriots in a game that meant everything for the Patriots and nothing for them. They took the Patriots to the limit and had one of the largest leads anyone has had over them in the second half. That might have the Giants going into the Super Bowl to face New England with huge confidence.
However, it doesn’t appear that their prior meeting is having all that much of an affect on the public as BetUs.com has the Patriots opening as a large -12.5 point favorite in this Super Bowl matchup.
