The Jets CB Darrelle Revis is having the best year in his career and is currently regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. His position on the field is nicknamed "Revis Island" for his ability to play one-on-one with some of the best opposing receivers in the NFL. Revis was listed at the starting cornerback for the Jets at the beginning of the 2007 NFL season. Starting all 16 games, Revis ended his rookie season with 87 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and 3 interceptions. Revis said that he was only beaten twice for touchdowns in his rookie season by Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens, both taking advantage of the size difference on fade routes. As the starting cornerback for the Jets in his second season, Revis established himself as an All-Pro cornerback after being tied for second among interception leaders through week 15 of the 2008 NFL season with five picks. After Revis was well known for shutting down receivers, opposing quarterbacks wouldn’t throw his way . In 2009 Revis limited 17 of the best receivers in the league to no more than five catches for 57 yards. He allowed three TD’s while making seven interceptions off them. Revis ended the year winning a Pro Bowl spot, and earned major respect inside and outside of the league. The Jets finished their regular season with a 9-7 SU record and made the playoffs with a Wild Card berth.
Their first playoff game was against Cincinnati, on the road. During their 24-14 victory over the Bengals, Revis again shut down Ochocinco, limiting him to 2 catches for 28 yards and collecting an interception. In the second week of the playoffs, Revis and the Jets defeated the AFC's #2 seed the San Diego Chargers, 17-14. Since the San Diego Chargers had a large variety of well acclaimed receivers, Revis was forced to cover most of them. The Chargers QB Phillip Rivers only threw the ball to a receiver covered by Revis three times during the entire game. Two of the three were tipped away by Revis for an incomplete pass, and the third was an interception. Revis' interception changed the momentum of the game and was instrumental in the Jets win.
The Jets next opponent is the Indianapolis Colts, on the road, where their league best pass defense goes against the Colts second best pass game.
