Jets vs. Colts AFC Championship Odds & Predictions: There is growing sentiment among pundits regarding Sunday's (Jan. 24) AFC Championship Game that the Indianapolis Colts might not be such a sure winner when they play the Jets. BetUS.com oddsmakers seem to think otherwise having installed the Colts as slightly better than touchdown favorites at -7 1/2 with a 39 1/2 total.
The Colts defense will need to be on its toes against the Jets who led the NFL on the ground this season. Indianapolis' run defense wasn't exactly top notch at 24th in the league. I fully expect the Jets will try to shorten the game by keeping the ball on the ground and resorting to a passing game if necessary. If the game becomes an aerial shootout between Payton Manning and Mark Sanchez then the advantage goes to the Colts.
Momentum means plenty in the NFL and the Jets certainly have that, thanks in part to the Colts who let the Jets off the hook by withdrawing their starters in their game in Week 16. The result – a 29-15 Jets victory. Wouldn't it be ironic if New York were to ride that bit of fortune all the way to the Super Bowl.
The Jets have won SU seven of their last eight games and have equaled that ATS going 7-1 over the same period.
Last week in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, the Jets upset San Diego 17-14 as an 8 1/2-point underdog. The combined score fell UNDER the posted total (43). Shonn Greene rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for the Jets in that win, while Mark Sanchez passed for 100 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Peyton Manning had two touchdown strikes as the Colts took care of the Ravens 20-3 in their Divisional Round matchup. The Colts managed to cover the 6 1/2-point spread in that contest, while the combined score fell UNDER the night's posted total (44).
AFC Championship Prediction: I want to fade the public and predict the Colts cover +7 1/2.
