The first game up on NFL Conference Championship Sunday slate has the Indianapolis Colts hosting the New York Jets at the Lucas Oil Stadium in the 2010 AFC Championship Game with a 3 pm Eastern kickoff on CBS. Sunday morning online sportsbook Bodog.com listed the Colts as big favorites by an 8 1/2-chalk with a 40 total.
The Colts and Jets just met four weeks ago in that now-infamous “Rest 'Em” game, when Indianapolis, which was 14-0 at the time and had already clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, pulled many of its starters with a lead in the third quarter, allowing New York to come from behind for a 29-15 victory. With a win, the Colts may still be shooting for perfection. And without that win, the Jets probably wouldn't be where they are today.
The Jets led the league in total defense this season, allowing just 252 yards per game. And they held the offensive-minded San Diego Chargers to just two touchdowns in last week's 17-14 AFC divisional-round victory.
New York rookie QB Mark Sanchez had his ups and downs during the regular season, and threw 20 interceptions. But in the first two playoff games of his NFL career, both wins, the former USC Trojan is 24-for-38 passing, with two touchdowns and one interception.
Of course, this Sunday he's going against that guy named Manning, who just won his fourth league MVP award.
The Jets also led the league in rushing this season, and have run for 171 and 169 yards in their two playoff wins. And they'll go against an Indy defense that ranked 24th vs. the run this season. However, the Colts held Baltimore's potent running game to just 87 yards in last week's 20-3 divisional-round victory over the Ravens.
