Amazingly, Minnesota seemed like an afterthought leading up to last weekend's Divisional round meeting with the Cowboys.
The media was so obsessed with Dallas and how well Jerry Jones team was playing that they forgot to notice that the Vikings were undefeated at home and winning by an average of 17.3 points per game. The Vikings did not waste much time getting everyone's attention, though, as they led the Pokes 17-3 at halftime.
Minnesota, despite the big win over Dallas and any momentum that it created, has not been as effective on the road, which more than explains why the Saints are the favorite to win the NFC Championship. The Vikings went 4-4 away from the Metrodome this season, but they were just 1-4 in their last five road games, a tally that has not inspired a great deal of confidence in their ability to beat a team that has outpaced opponents by an average of 12.5 points per game at home this year.
The Vikings will need the same Brett Favre who showed up against the Cowboys in order to beat New Orleans at home and realize their Super Bowl aspirations. Favre was masterful versus Dallas, throwing for 234 yards and four touchdowns, but he has been pedestrian at best in Minnesota's four road losses. The Mississippi native threw four touchdowns to four interceptions in those outings while posting a modest 84 passer rating. Not terrible, but not good enough to get past an explosive Saints squad and a crazy Superdome atmosphere.
