New Orleans Saints 2010 Superbowl Odds: The New Orleans Saints are on the verge of something they have never experienced, a trip to the Super Bowl. The Saints are one of five NFL teams (Cleveland, Detroit, Jacksonville, and Houston) that has never even played for the Lombardi Trophy, but they are hoping to change that this evening when they take on the Vikings in the 2010 NFC Championship at the Superdome. Online bookmaker Sportsbook.com has New Orleans listed at +200 on the moneyline to win Super Bowl XLIV in their 2010 Superbowl Odds.
Just about anyone who follows professional football felt that New Orleans would be an improved team this season; however,
few expected that the Saints would put together a 13-3 record and be the number one seed in the NFC. But that is exactly what New Orleans did and it did it in entertaining fashion, leading the league in scoring at 31.9 points per game.
The Saints did stumble going into the postseason by losing their last three regular season games, but Sean Payton's squad quelled any fears in last weekend's Divisional round game against the defending NFC Champion Cardinals. New Orleans destroyed Arizona 45-14 and looked almost flawless in every aspect of play. The offense generated 27 first downs and 418 total yards while the defense held the Cardinals to 1-of-8 on third down and forced two critical turnovers.
Now Drew Brees and company have a Minnesota unit staring them in the face with ideas on derailing their Superdome mojo. The Vikings certainly have the defense to slow down the Saints potent offense, but they will not have the advantage of a noisy crowd in their favor. Brees has been sacked just 49 times over the last three seasons (20 this year), and it is difficult to envision Minnesota beating New Orleans unless they can disrupt the former Boilermakers' timing. Not an easy task outside of the Metrodome, even with Jared Allen and the Williams' Wall.
If the Saints are able to advance to face either the Jets or Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, they would stand a good chance at bringing home the team's first world championship. New Orleans beat New York earlier in the year, when both teams were undefeated, in a hard fought game at the Superdome, proving they have what it takes to get past the Jets. The Saints also match up well with the Colts as they would almost certainly be able to put points on the board against Indy's mediocre defense.
