Odds to Win 2008 Super Bowl

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

This year’s odds to win the 2008 Super Bowl appear to be a bit lopsided.  Bringing the New England Patriots and New York Giants together both sporting some very impressive winning streaks is one game I do not want to miss not to mention the steak is on the line.  As everyone knows the Patriots come into this one looking to become the only team in NFL history to win 19 games in a row.  After rolling through the regular season as the #1 ranked offensive and #3 ranked defensive unit with a 16-0 mark they now find themselves one game away from immortality.  Lead by their all world QB Tom Brady and superstar WR Randy Moss the Patriots are listed as heavy favorites at WagerWeb.com.

The New York Giants have, in their own right, put together a very impressive streak of their own.  Including their NFC Championship Picks win over the Green Bay Packers the Giants have won 10 in a row on the road this season and are looking to become one of the few teams to have won the Super Bowl as a Wild Card and having to play on the road in all of their playoff games.  Much of their success surprisingly in the playoffs can be attributed to the good play of their much maligned QB Eli Manning.  Manning has been what the Giants have needed while not throwing a single interception during the playoffs.  The Giants have been no slouch in the defensive department either giving up only a total of 290 yards per game during their playoff run.  In addition, there are one of three teams this season who appeared to have the Patriots beaten during the regular season only to lose in the final quarter.

So what does all this mean?  Apparently the fact that the Patriots have dominated for much of the season (although they are only 2-8 ATS their L10) has been the deciding factor in the Odds to win the 2008 Super Bowl.  Currently the Patriots are a big -12 point spread favorite.  If you’d rather play the money line then you’ll have to fork over some big cash as the Patriots are -460.  By contrast taking the Giants with the money line would yield a hefty +380 for your 100 bet.
