Will Willie Parker score a TD in 2009 Super Bowl?

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, January 30th, 2009

Will Willie Parker score a TD in 2009 Super Bowl? With the big game less than 72 hours until kickoff, Point-Spreads.com is starting to break down various 2009 Super Bowl prop bets and in this article we will talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers offense and running back Willie Parker. There are over 300 Super Bowl prop bets available at Sportsbook.com and the Over/Under on Willie Parker getting 83.5 total rushing yards is one that caught my eye.

When asked about Willie Parker covering the over on 83.5 yards, the Sportsbook.com research team had this to say: “If Parker goes over this number, there is no way Pittsburgh loses this game. The Cardinals’ run defense has been better in the playoffs, but Parker easily has the talent to break even the 100-yard mark.”

“OVER,” stated Stat Fox analyst Paul Upstone. “This will be right up against it, however Parker goes OVER because of his ability to take off on a 20-yard jaunt.”

“UNDER,” stated Stat Fox analyst Steve Makinen. “With the way Arizona is stuffing the run in the postseason, it seems unlikely that Parker, and his 3.8 YPR, will surpass 80 yards.”

The other Willie Parker Super Bowl prop bet posted at Sportsbook.com is whether or not he will score a touchdown with Yes/No odds at -115.

We all now Parker has the goods to perform on the big stage. The last time he was on it three years ago he set a Super Bowl record piling up 225 rushing yards with a 75-yard touchdown run, a performance that changed his life.

And according to Willie Parker himself, “I definitely love the stage. After you break a record, coming from where I came from as an un-drafted free agent, it changes a lot of stuff. People started to notice me a little more. People want to be a part of me. They just wanted to be part of my life. It changed me a lot.”

He now waits for this one last chance, three hours on Super Sunday. “We are the Pittsburgh Steelers, we run the ball,” Parker said. “That’s just what we do. We will get time of possession and it will be on our side. I’m definitely ready. We been on the run lately. Now it’s time for one last game to lay it all on the line.”

“NO,” stated Stat Fox analyst Steve Makinen. “With just a handful or so of expected TD’s, taking anyone at even odds just doesn’t make sense.”

“YES,” stated Stat Fox analyst Doug Upstone. “I have room for another touchdown, so YES, the un-drafted free agent hits pay dirt.”

Whichever you decide is the best side to take, make sure you join Sportsbook.com to place all your Super Bowl prop bets. And tune in this Sunday, February 1st at 6:15 PM EST live on NBC to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers square off against the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl 43.
