2010 NFL Combine: The NFL Combine begins this week and will run through March 2nd. Players and coaches are scheduled to report today, but workouts, which include the 40 yard dash, vertical jump, bench press, and broad jump, will not begin until Saturday, February 27th. This year, as always, there are several strong candidates to win the bench press workout, including Russell Okung, Bryan Bulaga, Mike Iupati, Trent Williams, Dan Williams, and Terrence Cody. The NFL Combine bench press workout, along with the 40 yard dash, The combine bench press workout, however, is not a one rep max. It measures both power and endurance by having the participants perform as many reps as possible at 225lbs. This gives some smaller players, outside of offensive and defensive lineman, a chance to record the highest number of reps. Historically, though, it has been the big boys in the trenches that have performed the best at the combine. The unofficial record of 51 is held by former Eastern Kentucky defensive tackle Justin Ernest (1999). The next six best scores, all which exceed 41 in number, were recorded by offensive and defensive linemen. Sportsbook.com has set the over/under for number of bench press reps at 38.5; both are receiving -115 moneyline odds.
