The NFL Picks season is over but still the New England Patriots seem to continue to make headlines. Not because they ended up being the worst 18-1 team in NFL Picks history but because of what could possibly be the way in which they won their games since Bill Belichick became the head coach back in 2000. This week NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell met with Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, who appears to not want to give up on the Taping issue, and disclosed for the first time that the taping may have gone back to 2000, when Belichick first became coach of the Patriots. The commissioner said Belichick told him in their meeting last September that he believed the taping was legal. "We agreed to disagree," the commissioner said. Apparently that was enough for Specter as he stated that he will continue to investigate the taping of Patriots opponents. Even with all of these allegations the Patriots are listed as the 5-2 favorite to win Super Bowl 43 at SportsBetting.com.
It appears that the next steps to be taken against the New England will be trying to get their ex-video man, Matt Walsh, to admit that he did in fact illegally tape opponent’s signals at the direction of Patriots. However, at the moment at least, Wash is reluctant to “spill the beans” fearing reprisal from both the Patriots and the NFL. In fact, in attempting to work out a deal, Walsh’s attorney stated that there is willingness to turn over the video tapes but that currently the NFL's initial proposals are not sufficient protection for Walsh. To add fuel to the fire a lawsuit was filed this week against the Patriots seeking millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of the Rams walkthrough prior to their Super Bowl matchup in 2002.
Should the NFL be able to strike a deal with Walsh the mystique of the New England Patriots not to mention the accolades thrown towards Bill Belichick as being the best NFL coach of all time could come crashing down? The future will hopefully answer those questions but you have to wonder if after all these season whether or not the New England Patriots or Bill Belichick are really for real.
