Odds to win 2011 Superbowl: The 2009 NFL season is in the books, but online sportsbook BetUS.com has already released their Odds to win 2011 Superbowl, giving football fans something to think about until April's draft. The early favorite to win next year's Lombardi is none other than Super Bowl XLIV loser, the Indianapolis Colts, at +750 moneyline odds. The Colts are followed closely by current champion New Orleans (+800) and AFC West favorite San Diego (+900). Rounding out the top five are the New England Patriots at +1000 odds and the Dallas Cowboys at +1200 odds.

The Colts were the favorite heading into Super Bowl XLIV, and they looked like the better team for a quarter and a half; Odds to win 2011 Superbowlhowever, they had no answer for the Drew Brees and the Saints offense, especially in the second half. Can Indy learn from that performance? It is hard to say, but the Super Bowl was they only game that the Colts lost that they actually tried to win. It is almost a given that they will return to the playoffs, having been there eight straight years. Under Peyton Manning's leadership, Indianapolis has won at least 12 games for seven consecutive seasons. Expect the Colts to be in the hunt again, regardless of any moves the brass may or may not make in the draft or free agency.

The Saints should be in the playoff picture again as well; however, despite their Superbowl win, they did show some cracks in the armour late in the season that could carry over into next year if not addressed. The defense had some good moments to be sure, but it is unlikely that it will be able to generate as many turnovers/touchdowns as they did in 2009. In order for the Saints to repeat, the defense must get better at stopping opposing offenses. New Orleans ranked 25th in the league in yards per game allowed and 20th in points per game allowed. Try doing that two years in a row and winning back-to-back Lombardi Trophies.

The Chargers, Patriots, and Cowboys should all be contenders too, but each team has some issues to address. San Diego has a number of high profile players in flux (i.e. Vincent Jackson, Darren Sproules, Shawne Merriman), which it must decide to either cut lose or re-up, and New England has some aging/injured offensive components (Wes Welker, Randy Moss) that need to be looked at as well.

If Brett Favre decides to return, look for the Vikings to shoot up the odds leaderboard. Minnesota often looked like the best team last season and they outplayed the Super Bowl winner on their home turf in the NFC Championship Game.
