2010 New York Jets Needs: Linebacker, Defensive End, Safety, Offensive Line, Wide Receiver
Possible First Round Picks:
Taylor Mays (Safety – USC): At one time Mays was regarded as the top safety in college football and a certain top 10 pick. Those days are gone, but the USC product is still considered a first round selection and he could fall to New York at 29. Mays had an incredible combine, running a 4.31 forty while posting a 41" vertical leap and 24 reps on the bench press. With Kerry Rhodes now in Arizona, Mays could step right into the starting lineup.
Jerry Hughes (DE/LB – TCU): With Vernon Gholston headed to the front of the bust line, Hughes would be a nice fit at outside linebacker in New York's 3-4 scheme. Has good size at 6' 2" and 255lbs. and certainly knows how to get after the quarterback, recording 26 sacks for the Horned Frogs over the past two seasons.
Carlos Dunlap (DE/LB – Florida): Might be a stretch, given the Jets defensive style, but if Hughes is gone at 29, Dunlap might be the next best thing. Has some baggage but his talent is undeniable. Recorded 18 sacks over the past two years and has enough size (6' 6", 278lbs.) that he could be a force against the run, which is imperative for defensive ends in a 3-4 front.
