by Matt Foust on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

2010 NFL Draft: Dallas had a great season a year ago, but the Pokes still came up short when it mattered most. Jerry Jones has never been one to rest on his laurels, especially when they were not the kind he desired to begin with. So, look for the Cowboys to grab somebody who can provide immediate help when they select 27th in first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.

2009 Summary: Finished first in the NFC East with an 11-5 record. Lost 34-3 to the Vikings in the Divisional Playoff after beating Philadelphia 34-14 in the Wild Card round.

2010 Dallas Cowboys Needs: Safety, Offensive Tackle, Linebacker, Wide Receiver, Cornerback

Possible First Round Picks:

Charles Brown (OT – USC): With Flozell Adams gone, the Cowboys find themselves in need of a top-tier left tackle. Sure, Dallas would like to have Russell Okung, Bryan Bulaga, Trent Williams or Anthony Davis, but the reality is that all of those guys will be gone by the time the Cowboys' turn comes around. It is not as though Brown is chum anyway. The converted tight-end has great size at 6' 6" and 303lbs. and he would challenge for the starting job right away should Dallas grab him at 27.

Taylor Mays (FS – USC): Mays is an athletic freak who posted eye-popping numbers at the NFL Combine earlier this year. His draft stock has fallen in the last 12 months, but he is still a first round talent and Dallas is in need of a safety after letting Ken Hamlin go this off-season. If Mays is still around when the Cowboys pick, he may be too tempting to pass up.

Kareem Jackson (CB – Alabama): May be a stretch, but the underclassmen is an all-around corner who is capable against the run and pass. Had 49 tackles, one interception, and 12 passes defended for the Crimson Tide last season. A 6' 0" 196lbs. corner with 4.4 forty speed would make a nice compliment to an aging Terrence Newman.
