2011 Super Bowl Predictions: The NFL season has yet to begin, but, per usual, speculation has already commenced as to which team will emerge victorious in the 2011 Super Bowl. In accordance with the football hysteria that is soon envelop the nation, SBGglobal.com has released its 2011 Super Bowl Predictions. The online bookmaker has tabbed last year's Super Bowl loser, the Indianapolis Colts, as the favorite to bring home the Lombardi Trophy at +750 moneyline odds.
Twelve teams reach the playoffs every season, and, not surprisingly, nine of last year's post-season participants are
included in SBGglobal.com's top 10 most favored squads to win Super Bowl XLV. The Saints (+900), Cowboys (+1050), Vikings (+1050), Packers (+1250), and Eagles (+1750), all of which made the playoffs last year, are the four biggest favorites to capture the Lombardi from the NFC. In addition to the Colts, the Jets (+1100), Chargers (+1150), Patriots (+1200), and Ravens (+1450) are the pegged as the most likely to represent and win the championship for the AFC.
Recent history would tell us that only about half of the above teams will qualify for the playoffs this year as only six teams that made the post-season in 2009 appeared in the 2010 Playoffs (San Diego, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Arizona, Minnesota, and Philadelphia). Going back one more year, only five teams that reached the post-season in 2008 made a return showing in 2009 (San Diego, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, and New York Giants).
Perhaps the safest bet among the top teams is the San Diego Chargers, based soley upon the weakness of the AFC West. While the Chargers have had a tumultuous offseason, they still appear to be the class of the division as the Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos combined to go 17-31 last year. Indy has to compete against what should be good teams in Houston and Tennessee in the South and the AFC North and East are also stacked with Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati, New England, Miami, and New York all in the mix in their respective divisions.
The NFC looks much the same with at least two potential contenders in every division. In the South New Orleans and Atlanta are factors, in the North Green Bay and Minnesota will butt heads, in the East New York, Philly, and Dallas will be in the mix, and in the West San Francisco, Seattle, and Arizona should all be competitive.
