Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Predictions

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Predictions: Will the real Miami Dolphins please stand up. The team went 1-15 in 2007, 11-5 in 2008, and 7-9 last year, sending fans on a emotional three year roller coaster. Given Miami's recent track record, it may be the most difficult team to forecast for the upcoming NFL season but oddsmakers at BetUS.com are attempting to do it anyway. The online sportsbook presently has the Dolphins listed at +325 moneyline odds to win the AFC East in its 2010 NFL Predictions.

Tony Sparano has experienced two dramatically different seasons during his brief tenure as the Dolphins head coach, going Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Predictionsfrom an 11-5 division winning tally in 2008 to a disappointing 7-9 last year. The New Haven graduate is, obviously, hoping for a return to double digit wins this year as well as another visit to the postseason.

Sparano has some reason to feel good about the team's chances in 2010, but there are advances that need to be made in order for Miami to come anywhere close to the 11 wins it produced two seasons ago.

The Dolphins offense was a middle of the road unit last year thanks to a powerhouse rushing attack and a mediocre passing game. The team finished 17th in yards per game (337.6) and 15th in scoring (22.5) as a result. The ground game should be just as effective this season with running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams splitting time in the backfield once again. The question is how much the passing attack will improve.

Chad Henne showed flashes in starting 14 games last year (2878 yards, 12 touchdowns, 14 interceptions), and he should be better in 2010 due to the lumps he took in 2009. He also has a weapon in wide receiver Brandon Marshall that is significantly better than anyone on the roster last season. Marshall's presence alone will make the offense a bigger threat going forward.

The Dolphins defense digressed last year, ranking 22nd in yards per game allowed and 25th in points per game allowed. Jason Taylor, Joey Porter, Akin Ayodele, and Gibril Wilson are all gone from that group. Joining the team are linebackers Karlos Dansby and Tim Dobbins as well as draft picks Jared Odrick (DT) and Koa Misi (LB). If nothing else, the defense is now younger.

Miami Dolphins 2010 NFL Predictions: 8-8, Third Place AFC East. The offense will be better, but still is not the equal of New England. The defense is a definitive third in the division, falling far short of the Jets and Patriots.
