Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 NFL Predictions

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 NFL Predictions: The Buccaneers began a rebuilding project last year, letting Super Bowl winning Head Coach Jon Gruden go and replacing him with 33 year old Raheem Morris. Tampa Bay got the results most expected by finishing dead last in the NFC South with a 3-13 record. 2010 NFL Predictions at SBGglobal.com are looking for some improvement out of the Bucs this season with the Over on the team's 5.5 win total being favored at -135 odds; however, Tampa Bay is still favored for another last place finish in the South at +2350 odds.

Not much went right for the Buccaneers in 2009 but that was more than expected as the team entered the season with a Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 NFL Predictionsrookie head coach and a completely overhauled roster. It is doubtful Tampa Bay has arrived with training camp looming on the horizon, but the not too distant future does look bright with a number of talented young players on the team.

It all starts with the quarterback and the Bucs appear to have a true up and comer in Josh Freeman. Freeman presided over one of the league's worst offenses for nine games last season, but he showed some real flashes, despite throwing just 10 touchdowns to 18 interceptions. Freeman was on the field for all of the Bucs wins, including back-to-back road victories in the final three weeks of the season. If nothing else, the Kansas State product exhibited a great deal of toughness and leadership skill after holding up behind a line that allowed 46 sacks on the season.

If the line performs better in 2010, the offense should drastically improve upon last year's numbers (287.5 yards and 15.3 points per game). The team has some capable receivers in Kellen Winslow, Michael Clayton, Reggie Brown, Sammie Stroughter, Mark Bradley, and rookie Arrelious Benn, and the backfield is in decent shape as well with Cadillac Williams and Derrick Ward still on the roster.

Tampa Bay's defense was dreadful last season too, ranking 27th in both yards and points per game allowed. The secondary played good football, especially in light of the fact that the team had 28 sacks on the year, allowing just 207.4 passing yards per contest (10th in the league), but the front seven did nothing to stop the run, giving up a league worst 158.2 yards per game. That should change in 2010 with the drafting of defensive tackles Gerald McCoy and Brian Price.

McCoy and Price, who join other young talents on the defensive side of the ball such as Aquib Talib, will make an immediate impact upfront as Bucs' opponents will no longer be able to run wild between the tackles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 NFL Predictions: 5-11, Fourth Place NFC South. This team is at least one or two more years away from contending, but they will no longer be a laughing stock, even if the win total does not go up all that much.
