Yesterday the Miami Dolphins gave defensive end Jason Taylor his wish -- a chance to play for a contender. Taylor who had two years left on his contract was sent to Washington in exchange for a second round pick next year and a sixth round pick in 2010. The Redskins made the move to acquire the veteran Taylor after lineman Phillip Daniels suffered a season ending knee injury over the weekend. While Taylor may find the grass a little greener in Washington, he is still looking at so me pretty long Super Bowl odds. Online sports book SBGglobal.com currently has the Redskins listed at +4000 odds to win the Lombardi trophy. Taylor's old team would pay out over two times that amount at +9900 odds. Taylor, an 11 year veteran and stand out performer, fell out of favor with the new management in Miami over the off season. The charismatic sack master spent what new football operations leader Bill Parcells and new Head Coach Tony Sparano considered to be critical practice time dancing on ABC's hit show "Dancing With The Stars." Due to the falling out, the Dolphins shopped Taylor's services prior this year's draft but did not find any takers at their asking price. The injury to Daniels, who has been a locker room leader for Washington, put the Redskins in a situation of immediate need. The unfortunate developments also gave Miami a perfect chance to send Taylor packing. The exchange price was well worth it to the Redskins and they had plenty of room to fit Taylor's contract under their salary cap. Washington's defense, which was already formidable, will get a player who has 117 sacks and 40 forced fumbles on his career resume. Last season Taylor posted 11 sacks, 55 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and an interception returned for a touchdown. Taylor was also the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Taylor's departure from Miami, while hurting the franchise in the short term, further solidifies the team's rebuilding status. NFL Betting odds at SBGglobal.com have Miami at +2000 odds just to win their own division. The Redskins, who play in football's toughest division, are currently at +425 odds to win the NFC East and their win total is set at 7.5 with the over a -125.
