2010 NFL Predictions – AFC East

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

2010 NFL Predictions – AFC East: New England has owned the AFC East for quite some time, winning the division five of the last six seasons; however, many people are anticipating a tight race this year. The Jets reached the AFC Championship in January and Miami won the division title in 2008, which sets up an interesting battle heading into the 2010 season. 2010 NFL Predictions at Bodog.com have New England and New York out front with both squads presently listed at +130 moneyline odds to win the AFC East.

New England Patriots (+130): The Patriots were a prohibitive favorite to win the division last year with the return of Tom Brady,2010 NFL Predictions - AFC East and they did finish atop the standings with a 10-6 record. However, the team struggled on the road, going just 2-6 away from Foxborough. Even worse, they fell at home for the first time all season in a Wild Card meeting with the Ravens. New England should be more consistent this year with Brady now almost two years removed from knee surgery and added depth on the defensive side of the ball.

New York Jets (+130): The Jets went 9-7 last year but got hot in the later portion of the season and rode that momentum into the playoffs where they beat Cincinnati and San Diego on the road. New York fielded the league's number one defense a year ago and figures to be a top three unit again this season, which will make them a force in the East and a strong playoff contender. If quarterback Mark Sanchez can improve upon last year's poor numbers, the Jets could dethrone the Pats.

Miami Dolphins (+325): The Dolphins stunned everyone by winning the division in 2008 with an 11-5 tally, but they took a step back last year with a unexpected 7-9 finish. Five starters from the 2009 squad are gone, but Miami added big playmakers in wide receiver Brandon Marshall and linebacker Karlos Dansby. The talent is there to contend, but the Dolphins are still not the equal of the Pats offensively or the Jets defensively.

Buffalo Bills (+2000): Buffalo has been trapped between five and seven wins for the past five seasons and the prospects of breaking that trend in 2010, at least on the positive side, seem unlikely. Yes, the team has a new coach, but unfortunately for Bills fans, there are not enough new players. Buffalo won two division games last season, it will be lucky to get that far this year.
