2010 NFL Predictions – AFC West: The way the Chargers have dominated the AFC West in recent seasons, it is almost a foregone conclusion that they will win the division. San Diego will be chasing its fifth consecutive West title when the season kicks off next month and just about everyone is anticipating that the club will obtain it. 2010 NFL Predictions at Sportsbook.com have the Chargers listed as a -300 moneyline favorite to finish ahead of its AFC West counterparts once again.
San Diego Chargers (-300): The Chargers put together a 13-3 record last season but fell in the divisional round of the playoffs
to the Jets. Several players from that team are either gone or holding out, making this year, perhaps, the most uncertain since San Diego began its Western dominance. However, the team is still loaded with talent and has a proven leader in quarterback Philip Rivers.
Kansas City Chiefs (+600): The Chiefs have been abysmal of late, winning just 10 games over the past three seasons. Second year coach Todd Haley hopes to change that trend this year and the young talent on the roster (Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Flowers, Eric Berry, Tamba Hali) would suggest that is a strong possibility. No, Kansas City is nowhere near overtaking the Chargers, but it does appear on the cusp of leaving its dark days behind.
Oakland Raiders (+600): The Raiders have not won more than five games in a season since 2002, but, like the Chiefs, Oakland may be on the verge of turning the corner. The team has its first legitimate quarterback since Rich Gannon retired in Jason Campbell and it has a number of good pieces (Zach Miller, Louis Murphy, Richard Seymour, Rolando McClain, Nnamdi Asomugha, Lamarr Houston) on both sides of the ball that could help it finally crack the five win barrier.
Denver Broncos (+650): Denver has been second fiddle to the Chargers for quite some time now, but with the apparant advancement of the Chiefs and Raiders, the Broncos look to have some runner up company heading into the 2010 season. The Broncos, which lost eight of their last 10 games last year, have already been hit hard with injury as defensive end Elvis Dumervil (out for season) and running back Knowshon Moreno both suffered training camp setbacks. Perhaps an ominous sign of things to come. Could second place indeed be in jeopardy?
