Todd Haley has instituted a hard line approach with the Chiefs players after Herm Edwards laid back methods resulted in just six wins over the last two seasons. After an off-season of meetings and practices and two weeks of training camp, Haley will finally get to see the results of his work when the Chiefs take the field tonight.
There are plenty of things for Kansas City to work on, but Haley has kept his expectations for tonight's game rather simple.
"We're not going to be real complicated, so I would say the most important thing is does everybody know what to do," Haley said. "Then how well are we doing it."
The new coach did, however, emphasize that the light game plan should not reflect on the team's desire to win, preseason or not.
"I think winning has got to be important around here all the time because we need to learn how to win again," Haley said. "I think I have to coach the game to win. You're not going to bring certain guys back that have been out to do that, but you have to have the entire group ready to go with the mind set that we are going to find a way to win this game."
Among the things to look for in tonight's game is the Chiefs debut of quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel, who came to Kansas City in a trade this off-season, threw for 3693 yards and 21 touchdowns last year while filling in for an injured Tom Brady.
