2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Saturday, August 18th
New York Giants at New York Jets (-1.5) (O/U-36.5)
The two Big Apple rivals will face off Saturday night in a rematch of last season’s clash at MetLife Stadium. The Giants rolled through the Jets in Week 16, winning 29-14 to keep their playoff hopes alive and dash the Jets’ postseason dreams. Although that Christmas Eve 2011 matchup is long gone, the bitter memories of the defeat have no doubt stuck with many of the Jets’ players, who will not treat Saturday night’s game anything like a preseason tuneup. Of course fans won’t want to miss Tim Tebow, as he’ll be promised several snaps under center. Adding to the can’t-miss drama is the fact that the Giants would love nothing more than to add to their rival’s disappointment by sending them to a five-game losing streak, one that dates back to Week 15 of last season. PICK: Giants +1.5
2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Sunday, August 18th
Indianapolis at Pittsburgh (-3.5) (O/U-38)
The Indianapolis Colts looked pretty good in their week 1 preseason contest against the St.Louis Rams while the Pittsburgh Steelers shut out the Philadelphia Eagles in the first half of their matchup before losing a double digit lead in the second half. PICK: Colts +3.5
2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Monday, August 19th
Philadelphia at New England (-3) (O/U-41)
Although it is only a preseason edition of MNF, the first quarter promises to entertain with two Pro Bowl passers facing off in New England. Tom Brady will be sharp as always, and even more motivated to lead his Pats back to the promised land. The Eagles and Patriots may not produce the drama they would if it were the regular season, but they will provide fans with the closest thing to a Super Bowl preview. This matchup has star power, powerhouse franchises and the makings of a fine football game. I’d say that qualifies it as one of Week 2′s must-see exhibition matchups. PICK: Patriots -3
2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Thursday, August 16th
Cincinnati at Atlanta (-4.5) (O/U-38)
The Falcons have covered their last three preseason games after suffering a straight-up loss as a favorite in exhibition play. The Bengals have compiled a 24-26 against-the-spread record as a preseason underdog since the 1990 campaign, but failed to cover both such opportunities during quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green’s rookie season.
Cleveland at Green Bay (-3) (O/U-40)
The Packers have been outstanding in Week 2 of the preseason since 1995, probably because they’ve only had two starting quarterbacks in that span. Aaron Rodgers, who followed Brett Favre in Green Bay, is 3-1 SU in Week 2 of the preseason since taking over the starting gig.
2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Friday, August 17th
Tennessee at Tampa Bay (-3) (O/U-38)
Tampa Bay has taken six of the eight all-time preseason meetings between these franchises and had won four straight in the series prior to a 27-20 loss in Nashville in 2009. The Buccaneers and Titans also went head-to-head during Week 12 of last year’s regular season, with Tennessee claiming a 23-17 home decision.
Detroit at Baltimore (-3) (O/U-39)
The Ravens have won each of the previous two preseason clashes between these clubs, both of which took place at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore earned a 12-6 decision over the Lions in 2002 and posted a 17-6 triumph two years later. Baltimore is 11-2 over its last 13 preseason outings, while Detroit had won seven consecutive warm-up games dating back to 2010 before last week’s defeat.
Miami at Carolina (-4) (O/U-37)
This will be the fourth preseason meeting between the Dolphins and Panthers, with Miami taking a 2-1 lead in the series with last year’s 20-10 home triumph. The Dolphins also bested Carolina by a 27-17 count at Sun Life Stadium in a 2009 warm-up game.
Buffalo at Minnesota (-2.5) (O/U-37)
The Bills head coach Gailey is 4-15 SU and 6-13 ATS as a head coach during the preseason. will be the 10th preseason meeting between the Vikings and Bills. The last preseason meeting between the two teams was in 2002 at Buffalo in a Bills 24-21 win. Minnesota is 6-3 against the Bills in preseason play all-time and 3-1 at home.
Jacksonville at New Orleans (-6.5) (O/U-39)
The Saints are 2-0 ATS this postseason. They lost 7-6 to New England last Thursday on a short week.
Oakland at Arizona (-4.5) (O/U-36.5)
The Arizona Cardinals are still look for their first win of the 2012 preseason. The Oakland Raiders outplayed the Dallas Cowboys on paper in their opening preseason game but heading into week two the Raiders are looking for their first win and their first points. This is the third preseason game for Arizona and I see that giving them the edge here as roster battles heat up and does the QB battle against a very tough defense, I have to like the Cardinals here.
2012 NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks: Saturday, August 18th
Kansas City at St.Louis (-1) (O/U-36.5)
Kansas City looked good in its Week 1 date with Arizona, jumping out to a quick lead and covering as a 2-point favorite. The Chiefs are aiming to carry that momentum into Week 2’s game at St. Louis as 1-point underdogs. They’ve not won or covered in a Week 2 preseason game since 2004, when they beat none other than the Rams, 24-7, as 4-point home favorites.
Washington at Chicago (-1) (O/U-37)
Chicago’s defense gave up 31 points in their season open against the Denver Broncos, and must tighten things up in Week 2 in preparation for a challenging 2012 regular season schedule. RGIII had a phenomenal start to his NFL career in Week 1 of the preseason against the Buffalo Bills. Fans will be watching in anticipation when he takes to the field in his encore performance on Saturday night at Soldier Field.
San Francisco at Houston (-3) (O/U-37)
Seattle at Denver (-1) (O/U-37.5)
When Flynn makes his start this week, he will be throwing to a considerably better group of receivers. All injured receivers are cleared for play this Sunday, including Sidney Rice, who participated in contact drills today. Rice may not play significantly this weekend as a precaution, but Doug Baldwin, Terrell Owens and Ricardo Lockette definitely will.
Dallas at San Diego (-3.5) (O/U-37)
San Diego is super charged in Week 2 of the warm-up slate. The Bolts are just 3-3 SU in Week 2 of the preseason during the Philip Rivers era, but have come away with a 4-2 ATS mark in that span. Since 2006, when Tony Romo took over as the starter, Dallas is 4-2 SU and ATS in Week 2, losing and failing to cover against San Diego in Week 2 last season.
