Super Bowl 2011 Predictions: The NFL Preseason is in full swing and the regular season opener, an NFC Championship rematch between the Vikings and Saints, is less than a month away. The nearness has given many the Super Bowl itch, a typical August development for football fans all over the country. Sportsbook.com has done its best to soothe the betting public's pigskin cravings by releasing its Super Bowl 2011 Predictions. The online bookmaker presently has the defending AFC Champion Colts listed as a +700 moneyline favorite to win the Lombardi Trophy come next February.
Indianapolis Colts (+700): Indianapolis has to be considered a playoff shoe-in heading into the 2010 regular season; the
team has reached the post-season eight straight years and has not won fewer than 10 games since 2001. The Colts also return 20 starters from last year's 14-2 squad, including league MVP Peyton Manning. Granted, a playoff appearance does not guarantee a Super Bowl appearance; however, with another division title, the Colts will, most likely, earn a bye and at least one home playoff game. One has to like this team if two wins earns them a trip to the Big D next February.
Green Bay Packers (+800): The Packers gained more than a few backers as a result of the ongoing Brett Favre saga. Many had Minnesota lined up for an NFC North title and subsequent Super Bowl run, but that line of thinking has lost some steam of late. Green Bay is the new North/NFC favorite and why not with a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers and a defense that ranked in the top 10 in both points and yards per game allowed last season. If the Pack can garner a bye and home field advantage, look out, traveling to Green Bay in January is a scary thought.
Dallas Cowboys (+800): Dallas always seems to be in the Super Bowl conversation, but has a way of dismissing itself once the playoffs roll around. Like Green Bay, the Cowboys have an impressive signal caller, solid rushing attack, and top 10 defense, meaning there is not much to dislike. This team just needs to perform better in the clutch and ignore all the Lombardi talk for a while. If the Pokes can do that, they may find themselves playing a home game in February.
New Orleans Saints (+800): The defending Super Bowl champs cannot be discounted, despite some glaring defensive deficiencies. New Orleans had those last year and still upset the Vikings and Colts in route to its first league championship. The offense, which powered the team last season, is still running hot with Drew Brees at the wheel. Yeah, maybe a few teams have caught on to some of Sean Payton's play calling idiosyncrasies, but does it really matter when the personnel is so good? Probably not.
