Steelers vs Redskins Point Spread 2013 NFL Preseason Week 2

by Scott Burgess on Monday, August 19th, 2013

The Washington Redskins host the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight, Monday August 19th, for the first Monday night game of 2013 at FedEx Field. RG III wants to play, but it’s unlikely he’ll see the field tonight. These two teams last met on October 28th with the Steelers 27-12 home winners. NFL oddsmakers have listed the Redskins as -2.5 point home favorites over the Steelers with the over/under set at 39 points. Let’s preview the Steelers vs Redskins preseason meeting and be sure to get the current 2013 NFL Preseason Point Spreads now.

RG-IIIThe Steelers (0-1, 0-0 V) lost to NY Giants 13-18 at home last Saturday. QB Ben Roethlisberger was sacked once and knocked down a couple of times during his two series of work. Roethlisberger completed 4 of 8 passes for 36 yards, leading the Steelers to a field goal on his second possession. LaRod Stephens-Howling rushed for 40 yards on seven carries for the Steelers. Rookie RB Le’Veon Bell did not play due to a sore left knee, though coach Mike Tomlin stressed it was only a precautionary measure.

RB’s Le’Veon Bell and Jarvis Jones are looking to become the team’s first two rookies to start. On offense, the team is currently down two tight ends and a wide receiver. Heath Miller is making his way back from a torn ACL, and Matt Spaeth is a candidate for the PUP list due to a foot injury. Plaxico Burress may be done for the season after landing on injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff.

Only six cornerbacks dressed for the Steelers’ preseason opener, with four players out nursing lower leg injuries. The Steelers should be strong in the front seven, at least.

The Redskins (1-0, 0-0 H) won in Tennessee 22-21 last Thursday. Backup QB Kirk Cousins went 6-for-7 passing for 52 yards and a touchdown during the Redskins’ win over the Titans in their preseason opener, and will start tonight. RGIII is amping up his participation in training camp, and lobbying head coach Mike Shanahan to let him play during the preseason, but they don’t want to risk an injury to him.

Griffin ran 16 plays with the first-string offence against a scout team that was mimicking the Pittsburgh Steelers defence in preparation for the Redskins’ next preseason game. Wearing his familiar black brace on his right knee, Griffin completed 7 of 10 passes with an interception. He moved well in the pocket, although he didn’t face much of a pass rush.

The Redskins had a strong showing defensively against the Titans despite being depleted. In addition to Thomas, the Redskins have also lost defensive end Adam Carriker to injury, potentially for the season, and defensive end Rob Jackson and lineman Jarvis Jenkins to four-game PED suspensions. The team’s defensive depth will be tested yet again when the Redskins begin substituting in the second- and third-team units Monday.
