Online bookmaker SBGglobal.com has posted their odds for Super Bowl XLIII which will take place on February 1st, 2009 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The game will be broadcast on NBC and Al Michaels and John Madden will serve as the announcers. Last year's Super Bowl losers, the New England Patriots, are this year's favorite to take the Lombardi Trophy at +300 odds. It is no surprise that most of last year's best performers are favored again this year to be contenders for the championship. Following the Patriots are the Dallas Cowboys +425, San Diego Chargers +600, Indianapolis Colts +750, Jacksonville Jaguars +1000, New Orleans Saints +1600, New York Giants +1700, Pittsburgh Steelers +1700, Minnesota Vikings +1700, Philadelphia Eagles +2000, and the Seattle Seahawks +2000. The two biggest surprises on that list are the Saints at +1600 and the Vikings at +1700. Last year New Orleans finished a disappointing 7-9 and in third place in the NFC South and Minnesota finished second in the NFC North at 8-8. Most pundits are predicting a turnaround for the Saints in 2008, but the fact that New Orleans is receiving less favorable odds than the Giants and the Steelers is unusual. It is also of note that the Vikings are receiving less favorable odds than the Packers who finished at 13-3 and in first place in the NFC North last year. This year's favorites featured a combined 117-59 record, six division titles, two conference titles, and a Super Bowl Championship last season.
