Houston Texans vs New Orleans Saints 2010 NFL Picks, Odds & Predictions: The Saints return to the Superdome tonight for their first live game action since beating the Vikings 31-28 in the NFC Championship. Granted, this evening's preseason meeting with the Texans pales in comparison to that contest, but New Orleans fans will be jazzed to see their team nonetheless. Kickoff in tonight's ball game is scheduled for 8:00pm ET. 2010 NFL Picks, Odds & Predictions at SBGglobal.com have the dust up listed as a pick'em with both teams receiving -110 moneyline and against the spread odds; the game total is set at 41.
New Orleans exhibition opener got messed up by a pesky Patriots squad last Thursday in Foxboro. The Saints lost the game 27-24 after giving up 17 first half points to Tom Brady and company.
Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees had a respectable showing, completing 9-of-13 passes for 55 yards, but the offense as a whole had a lukewarm night. New Orleans did produce 21 first downs and over 300 total yards; however, the team converted just four of its 12 third down opportunities and averaged a mere 3.4 yards per carry for the game.
The Saints defense fared far worse, though, as New England rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns. New Orleans, which did have two sacks and eight quarterback hits, also missed numerous tackles and failed to manufacture a turnover, something it thrived on last season.
According to The Times-Picayune, the team has drilled fundamentals hard this week in an effort to avoid a repeat of last week's troubles at Gillette Stadium.
Houston also dropped the ball in its first preseason contest, falling to the Cardinals 16-19 in Arizona. Despite the loss, the Texans' first team offense looked to be in mid-season form, cruising to a 10-0 first quarter lead behind a near flawless performance from quarterback Matt Schaub. Schaub completed five of his six passes for 78 yards and a touchdown, giving him a 158.3 passer rating for the night.
Wide receiver Andre Johnson also showed up big, reeling in three catches for 59 yards and a score (44 yard pass from Schaub).
The Texans offense outgained the Cardinals 356 to 272, but hung a donut in the red zone, going 0-for-4 inside Arizona's 20 yard line. Houston's defense got a tremendous effort out of end Mario Williams, who recorded three tackles and two sacks in limited action.
2010 NFL Preseason Betting Trend: Counting last week's against the spread loss, the Texans are 9-5-3 (9-8 straight up) against the number under Head Coach Gary Kubiak in the preaseason.
Houston Texans Pick (-110), Over 41 (-110)
New Orleans Saints Pick (-110), Under 41 (-110)
