Online bookmaker BetUS.com took an unusual step recently, they posted odds on which NFL player will be the first to get arrested this season and which NFL team will have the most arrests in 2008. The prominent legal troubles of a number of big names players inspired the sports book to give the public a place to make their opinion known and a chance to possibly make a little money while doing so.
The leading canidate to end up behind bars first is – to no one's surprise – Adam "Pacman" Jones. Jones is getting 1/1 odds to beat the competition to the slammer. Why Jones you ask? Well, the about to be reinstated Dallas cornerback has been arrested six times since being drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans.
Following closely behind Jones in the betting odds is Cowboy teammate Tank Johnson and Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry. Henry signed a new deal with Cincinnati on Tuesday, just four months after the club dropped him for being arrested a fifth time. He will have to serve a mandatory four game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
Only four teams are being given odds to lead the league in arrests. At the top of the list are the aforementioned Bengals at 4/6 odds and the Cowboys at 2/1 odds. The other two teams are the Carolina Panthers (10/1 odds) and the Cleveland Browns (15/1 odds).
