The Philadelphia Eagles host the new look Cleveland Browns, Thursday August 25th, as Browns QB Colt McCoy looks for another fantastic outing. The Browns have never beaten the Eagles in regular season action. NFL oddsmakers have the Eagles as -7 point home favorites over the Browns with the over/under set at 39.5 points. Cleveland (1-1) started their preseason with a 27-17 home win over Green Bay, but dropped in week 2 to Detroit 28-30, at home. The Browns have the beginnings of a good team, but it would be a big stretch to say that they are a good team just yet. Of course, whether or not RB Peyton Hillis plays at all against the Eagles is somewhat up in the air. Thanks to a hamstring injury, Hillis missed Cleveland's preseason contest against the Detroit Lions this weekend. If Hillis does suit up, watching him and Vick butt heads with their respective offenses. Quarterback Colt McCoy played great, completing 9 of his 10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown, with a QB rating of 152.1 in his three series of work against Green Bay. It was a confidence-inspiring performance for the 2010 third-round pick, who was getting his first real shot at running new head coach Pat Shurmur's version of the West Coast offense. McCoy looked poised, comfortable and in command, three words not often used to describe the play of Cleveland quarterbacks. He looks ready to take the next step in his development as an NFL passer and leader
Philadelphia (1-1) beat Baltimore 13-6 to start their preseason, but lost in Pittsburgh 14-24, in week 2. After Michael Vick dazzled in Philly's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, Vick was utterly atrocious against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In one whole half worth of playing time, Vick completed just five of his 12 passes while throwing three passes to the wrong team. He finished the evening with a quarterback rating of 13.5. For the Eagles, it was a nasty wake-up call. They have a heck of a lot of talent, but Vick is the key to it all. If he can't be at his best on a consistent basis, the Eagles are going to have a hard time making good on all the hype. The Eagles' inexperienced LB corps has been a focal point ever since the lockout ended and the Birds did nothing to improve their group, unlike just about every other position they improved.
