New England Patriots Betting Odds

New England Patriots Betting OddsSportsbook.com has posted the New England Patriots betting odds at 5 to 2 to win Super Bowl XLII. Despite throwing to a bunch of has-beens and never wases, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady managed 3529 yards, 24 touchdowns and a QB rating of 87.9. Patriot management recognized the lack of talent at receiver as a major weakness thus they added numerous reliable targets for Brady to throw to. Brady is a master at spreading the ball around, so it is scary to think what he can do with Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker and Kelley Washington now at his disposal.

"These guys are incredible and are going to be even better than last year with their draft and off-season upgrades," stated Point-Spreads.com NFL expert handicapper Brad Marchetti. "The 5 to 2 betting odds for the superbowl is pretty slim with all the good AFC teams but on paper the Patriots are the team to beat this year."
Critics are concerned with how Moss’s personality will fit in on a no nonsense team like New England. The same concern was raised a few seasons back when they signed Corey Dillon and that ended up working out just fine. Speaking of Dillon, he won’t be returning to the Patriots so the full time starting gig will be handed over to Laurence Maroney.
The Patriots were also active this post season on the defensive side of the ball. Even though the Pats gave up only 294.4 YPG and 14.8 PPG, they added an absolute monster in Adalius Thomas to their linebacking unit. Thomas will join Teddy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Rosevelt Colvin to form a very solid unit. With the return of Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork; the defensive line is flat out nasty.

The secondary isn’t the strength of the defense but it is very solid. CB Asante Samuel came into his own last season and is considered one of the best CB’s in the NFL. The Pats are also counting on the healthy return of strong safety Rodney Harrison. After looking at the Patriots on paper, it is little wonder why they are the favorite to win it all.
