The Arizona Cardinals shocked the world winning the NFC Championship and thus making their first Super Bowl appearance ever, only to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 2009-10 season will have the majority of starters back to the Cardinals lineup as they try for Super Bowl XLIV. But, NFL oddsmakers at Bodog.com have the Arizona Cardinals at 26/1 odds to win Super Bowl XLIV. Be sure to get your Arizona Cardinals Super Bowl XLIV Odds, Picks & Prediction in now at Bodog.com

The Cardinals finished the 2008 season with a 9-7 record and their first division title since 1975. Many expected a quick playoff exit for the Cardinals but they shocked the football world by winning three playoff games and advancing to their first Super Bowl in franchise history. They almost pulled off the upset over the Steelers, but the Steelers scored with 35 seconds to go in the game to win 27-23.

Luckily the Cardinals are in the weakest Division, NFC West, and should finish on top with their 2nd ranked passing game that averaged 292.1 yards a game. The Cardinals did not make too many off-season moves so the bulk of their NFC Championship team will be back this season. The most important player returning will be QB Kurt Warner who passed for 4,583 yards and 30 TD’s. The Cardinals outstanding receiving corps of Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston will also be returning. Between the four of them they added 26 TD’s and combined for 3,475 passing yards. Back-up QB Matt Leinart is fighting to remain as Warner’s back-up, but Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt assured Brian St. Pierre that he would be given a shot. St. Pierre was undrafted out of Boston College in 2003, while Leinart won the Heisman Trophy and directed USC to two national championships before coming to the Cardinals. The Cardinals did look to improve their rushing offense, which ranked last in the league in 2008, during the off-season by drafting Chris "Beanie" Wells from Ohio State with their first round draft pick. Wells rushed for over 3,000 yards in three seasons with the Buckeyes. With the addition of Wells the Cardinals will have a more balanced offensive attack in 2009. Look for the Cardinals to maintain a potent offense in 2009.

Their defense struggled during the regular season finishing ranked 28th, but when it came to playoff time they improved. In their first three playoff games they gave up 762 pass yards, average 254 yards a game, while allowing 302 yards rushing, average 100.6 yards a game. They gave up an average 20.6 ppg before their loss to Pittsburgh. With the loss of DE Antonio Smith, LB Karlos Dansy and DE Chike Okeafor will need to step it up as well as DB’s Adrian Wilson, Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The three were very inconsistent in 2008.

The Bottom Line: The Cardinals will no doubt win the NFC West Division. Their run to the Bowl will depend on defense and how much they learned from last year’s Bowl loss.
