Tom Brady and the New England Patriots look for their first win of the preseason on Friday night as they take on the Carolina Panthers. Brady is a new father as his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan gave birth on Thursday to their new boy. Brady's status for the game is uncertain.
SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Panthers at home.
NFL Betting Preseason Preview
New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers
Friday, 8:00 pm Eastern – CBS
SBG Global Opening Line: Patriots -1.5 (-115), Total 38
One player that will play on Friday night is Carolina linebacker Dan Morgan. He has not played in almost a year as he sustained a concussion last season. "They are my family and they worry about me, but at the same time I wouldn't be here if there was something concerning my family," Morgan said. "They are behind me 100 percent." Carolina is counting on Morgan to help solidify the defense. "I'm going to go out and have fun. I'll play as much as they want or as little as they want," Morgan said. "I'm just excited to get back out there on the field."
SBG Global Current Line: Panthers -1, Total 37.5The Panthers played poorly in all phases of the game last week in the loss to the Eagles. Jake Delhomme was sacked three times, lost a fumble and had an interception returned for a touchdown against Philadelphia. "We're looking forward to getting back on the field," Delhomme said. "Nobody really played too good last week so we're looking forward to getting back against a really good football team."
New England has not played much better in the preseason. Brady and backup Matt Cassel have combined for four interceptions in two preseason losses. Part of the problem for New England is injuries. Starting running back Laurence Maroney is finally expected to get playing time this week but receiver Randy Moss is still out. "No matter how fast you go in practice you're not going to simulate game speed," Maroney said. "I'm not going to lie, I need the game reps."
New England is expected to go with QB Tom Brady if he makes it back for the game followed by Matt Cassel, Vinnie Testaverde, and possibly rookie Matt Gutierrez. The Panthers are expected to go with QB Jake Delhomme for about a half followed by David Carr and Brett Basanez.
