NFL Preseason Pick: New England Patriots vs New York Giants

by Matt Foust on Thursday, August 28th, 2008

The New England Patriots and New York Giants will conclude what have been lackluster pre-seasons tonight at 7:00pm ET at Giants Stadium in New York. The game will mark a final chance for the three and four deep players to make an impression on their head coaches before the roster cut downs on August 30th. NFL Preseason pick betting odds at Bodoglife.com have the World Champion Giants as a -2 home favorite.NFL Preseason Pick: New England Patriots vs New York Giants

The Patriots head into the final pre-season game with more questions than expected for a team that finished 18-1 last year. Quarterback Tom Brady has yet to play in a single exhibition game and the severity of his foot injury is not really known. He is, however, vowing to be ready for the team's regular season opener against Kansas City. There is also the team's poor play, granted it is just the pre-season, but New England has now lost four games in a row going back to the Super Bowl. A win would be nice, but with the starters seeing little to no action tonight (as it has been the majority of the pre-season), that is not a certainty.

The Giants, after last week's loss to the Jets, have some major concerns as well. The strength of their team last year was the defensive line and they lost defensive end Osi Umenyiora for the season to a knee injury. New York will now be without two Pro Bowl linemen from last year as Michael Strahan retired at the conclusion of the 2007 season. Head Coach Tom Coughlin has decided to move linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end after Umenyiora's injury.

The starters for both teams will be watching most of this contest from the sidelines, as is customary in the final pre-season game. It is a time for some young players to shine and see if they have what it takes to make it in the NFL.

Bodoglife.com's line for tonight's game:

Patriots +2 (-110), Over 36 (-115)

Giants -2 (-110), Under 36 (-105)
