The NY Giants went 12-4 last season only to lose to Philadelphia in the Division final. The Giants have gotten rid of their distractions and are ready to prove they are a strong team that can compete in the all tough NFC East. QB Eli Manning had a good season last year with 21 TD’s after throwing for 3,238 yards. He’ll have his running machine RB Brandon Jacobs back, he had 219 carries for 1,089 yards and 15 TD’s. The Giants had the best running game in the NFL. The Giants used their first round pick on WR Hakeem Nicks, a player they hope can immediately step in for Burress. The 6-2 wideout has had three productive years with the Tar Heels, in just three years Nicks has been the most prolific receiver in Tar Heel history. The Giants lost was RB Derrick Ward, but the Giants have high hopes for fourth round draft pick Andre Brown. They’ll need someone to step up at tight end, and for young WR’s Steve Smith and Domenik Hixon to continue emerging as consistent weapons. WR Smith had the better season with 57 catches for 574 yards with one TD.
On defense the Giants have beefed up their defensive line with the return of Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora. This will take some pressure off Justin Tuck who had 67 tackles last season. They added Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard up front and the thought of these four makes for a strong defense. Their defense also features the likes of Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield. Last season their defense ranked top ten in all categories.
