Philadelphia (2-1) won in week 1, at home, against Baltimore 13-6, lost in Pittsburgh 14-24 and won in Week 3 against Cleveland 24-14. The Eagles were rewarded for their gamble on Michael Vick, and this week he was rewarded for his part in the equation as he signed a six-year, $100 million contract (with $40 million guaranteed). Vick dedicated himself to learning Andy Reid's offensive system, putting in the time and the practice to win the trust of the coaching staff. He needed a full year to get back into playing shape. After that, the road to the new contract was wide open. With a new contract Vick will be happy to win for his team that has rewarded him well. None of the regular starters are expected to take the field against the Jets for precautionary reasons, but that certainly doesn’t mean the game will lack excitement. Veteran Michael Vick has been confirmed as the leading quarterback for the Eagles tonight, while it will be very interesting to see how the bottom of the wide receiver depth chart shapes up and recent acquisitions, such as cornerback Jorrick Calvin, respond in actual game action despite being with the team for a very short period of time.
New York (2-1) opened with a loss in Houston 16-20, then beat Cincinnati 27-7 at home and wi=on in week 3 in New York 17-3 against the Giants. The Jets offense has been mediocre at best this preseason, expect most of the starters to see seriously limited action—and for Mark Sanchez, no action at all. LaDainian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress will watch from the sidelines as their backups will fight for the remaining roster spots on a Jets team that still has some holes. Whether or not Sanchez calls the plays in Philadelphia like he did last preseason, he will see Greg McElroy play the majority of the game under center with a surrounding cast of receivers, running backs, and offensive linemen who have yet to prove themselves. The same is true for a defense that will need to prove something to Rex Ryan about the depth of a team already without a proven pass rusher from the front line.
