New York's less than stupendous offense accounted for 16 first downs and 288 yards while also turning the ball over four times. Washington, which got a team leading seven tackles out of fourth round pcik Perry Riley (LB), had four sacks in the victory.
Running back Larry Johnson was one of the few offensive bright spots for Washington as he amassed 42 yards on nine carries and reeled in a 15 yard fourth quarter touchdown pass that put the Redskins on top for good.
Arizona improved its exhibition record to 2-1 last week as well with a 14-9 win at Soldier Field in Chicago. Derek Anderson, who got the start over Matt Leinart and appears to have assumed the first string job, completed 7-of-12 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in the win. Leinart had an even better night, connecting on 9-of-10 for 84 yards and one score.
The Cardinals defense stymied the Bears revamped offense, holding Chicago to 292 total yards while picking off the errant Jay Cutler two times. Arizona also got good pressure throughout the game and finished the night with four sacks and six quarterback hits.
