Houston Texan fans have something to be optimistic about. During the second half of the season, the Texans played .500 football. Sportsbook.com has posted the Houston Texans betting odds to win Super Bowl XLII at 100 to 1.
“To me the jury is still out on QB Matt Scaub. I will have to take a wait and see approach with this team early on,” stated Point-Spreads.com NFL Expert Brad Marchetti . “The schedule is difficult so the betting odds on the over\under season wins at 6.5 seem about right but this squad could win 8 games.”
Now that the David Carr era is finally over it is onto Michael Vick’s former backup Matt Schaub. Despite only having two starts in the NFL, Schaub is considered a very good leader with a strong arm. His main target will be WR Andre Johnson who caught 103 passes a year ago.
Ahman Green should also give the offense a huge boost. Although his best years are behind him, Green ended up rushing for over 1000 yard and also got in the end zone six times. Ron Dayne should compliment Green nicely. Dayne was very effective late in the season and should see 10 carries a game or so. The defensive line is definitely a work in progress.
Last year’s top selection Mario Williams didn’t have the rookie campaign Texans fans had hoped for. He was dinged up a bit so don’t be surprised if he a breakout season. The Texans select another lineman with their first pick this past April. DT Amobi Okoye most likely will crack the starting line up but could take a couple years to develop considering he can’t even legally buy a beer yet.
The linebacking unit is the strength of the unit with second year DeMeco Ryans leading the way. Outside of Dunta Robinson, who is a star in the making, the Texans’ secondary is pretty poor. The key for the defense comes down to whether or not their youngsters on the line step up.
