The Tennessee Titans looked as if they were one of the worst teams in football last year, losing their first five. Behind the emergence of Vince Young, they ended up winning six out of their last seven en route to an 8-8 record. Tennessee and Vince Young surprised everyone last season by even winning the 8 games. In order for them to exceed the 8 win mark Young will have to do a lot of it on his own. Gone are the Titans leading rusher and receiver and their replacements won’t get many Titan fans excited. Battling for the starting RB position are often out of shape LenDale White, often injured Chris Brown and rookie Chris Henry. The receiving unit is also a mess with Brandon Jones and Justin Gage likely to man the starting spots.
Giving up almost 370 yards a game and 25 point, the Titans’ defense ranked last in yardage and next to last in scoring. For the upcoming season, it is hard to expect any drastic improvements. The defensive line is anchored by hardworking DE Kyle Vanden Bosch and DT Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth has a world of talent but needs to start playing up to his potential. The linebacking corp. is also pretty average although Keith Bulluck is expected to have a very good season.
As everyone knows, Pacman Jones will be missing from the secondary due to disciplinary reasons. The Titans did add free agent Nick Harper from the Colts to take his place. First rounder Michael Griffen should form a very nice safety tandem with Chris Hope. Registering only 26 sacks a year ago, it is imperative for the defense to improve this number if they expect to improve on their horrible defensive rankings.
