The NFC West has been a breeding ground for poor play the past couple of seasons, with the exception of the Seattle Seahawks. This year the Cardinals are hoping to rise from their franchise ashes and overtake the Seahawks as the leader in the division. NFL division winner odds at Sportsbook.com are skeptical of Arizona's or anyone elses chances. The odds break down as follows: Seattle Seahawks -140, Arizona Cardinals +225, San Francisco 49ers +550, and the St. Louis Rams +550.
Favorite: The Seahawks have had control of the West for a few years now and they appear to be in the driver's seat again this season. They have battled some pre-season injury issues, but they should be relatively healthy when the regular season gets going. The weakest part of their game last year was the rushing attack, but off-season upgrades should give Head Coach Mike Holmgren a more balanced team in 2008.
Runner up: The Cardinals made some strides last year under first year coach Ken Whisenhunt and they should make even more this season. The roster is not short on talent, but it short on knowing how to win. If they can overcome their history, the Cardinals could be poised to take out the Seahawks.
