Week 1 of the NFL season is almost upon us and the action will get started for the New York Jets as they head down to Miami and take on the Dolphins.  Last year Miami was the worst in the league at 1-15 and they are hoping that they can get things turned around in 2008.  The Jets had a disappointing 2007 as well in which they went 4-12 after a strong 2006 campaign that saw them reach the playoffs.

Get Expert NFL Picks for Week 1 from Football Handicapper Jeff Alexander and start winning today! This game has the added drama of it being the first time Brett Favre suits up in a Jets uniform, and New York will be facing their old starter in Chad Pennington, who was signed by the Dolphins.

Jets vs Dolphins Week 1 NFL Odds:
New York Jets -3
Miami Dolphins +3
Total is Set at 36

After the disastrous 2007 season, head coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller were let go.  Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga wanted to make a splash so he went out and got Bill Parcels to oversee all of the team's football operations.  Parcells went out and got one of his guys to run the team in first-time head coach Tony Sparano. This team will have an enitrely new look, especially without Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor roaming the field for the defense.

The Jets didn't make any drastic changes in the front office, but they needed to improve a weak offense that led to the team's low win total. Enter Brett Favre, who not only solidifies the quarterback position but gives the team an experienced on-field general.

I see the Dolphins offense struggling to move the ball through the air, partly because Pennington is accurate but has a weak arm and partly because he doesn't have anyone to throw the ball to.  Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown will do the majority of ball-moving for this team, and with that balanced attack the ground game should be able to put some points on the board.  BetUS.com has the Miami Dolphins spread at +3.

The Jets will do more damage through the air now that they have Favre and a couple of decent receivers in Cotchery and Coles.  Favre will throw a couple of touchdowns, might have one pick at most, and he'll lead this team to a close win over Miami.  BetUS.com has the New York Jets line set at -3.

Oddsmakers Predicted Score: Jets 19, Miami 16
