The New England Patriots QB Tom Brady looks to build on his record setting season last year as his Patriots take on the Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday September 7, at Gillett Stadium. There’s speculation already surrounding the superstars injured right foot, which had him out of the Pats preseason games. NFL Oddsmakers at BetUS,.com have the New England Patriots as -16 point home favorites over the Kansas City Chiefs with the over/under set at 44 points. The Pats QB Tom Brady is coming off one of the best seasons for a quarterback in league history. He finished with 50 touchdown passes and compiled a 117.2 passer rating, the second-best ever, while leading New England to the first-ever 16-0 regular season last year. But when it came time for the playoffs, his pace slowed right down. Now with talk about his foot and him getting no preseason play in, can we expect to see the same Brady? Patriots fans better hope so as their backup quarterbacks are just plain awful. Their biggest problem might be on defense, veterans Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi and Adalius Thomas will welcome rookie Jerod Mayo to a talented linebacking corps, but the Patriots seem thin at cornerback after the departures of Pro Bowler Asante Samuel and Randall Gay. But they signed two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Deltha O'Neal.
The KC Chiefs spent lots of time on the offseason rebuilding and it may take a while for them to gel as a team. They have 15 rookies on thier roster entering the opener, including starting defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, the No. 5 overall pick in the draft out of LSU. Rookie cornerback Brandon Flowers and left tackle Branden Albert are also expected to start, even though Albert missed all of the preseason with a sprained foot. QB Brodie Croyle will start Sunday as he looks for his first NFL win as a starter. Croyle started six games toward the end of last season, losing them all while compiling a 68.6 passer rating. The Chiefs were the least productive in the AFC, ranking last with averages of 277 total yards and 14.1 points. The Chiefs were sacked a conference-high 55 times. On a good note running back Larry Johnson, who missed the final eight games of the year with a foot injury, is expected back in the lineup.
Recent Trends to Consider:
- Chiefs are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 meetings.
- Chiefs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games.
- Patriots are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
- Patriots are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games.
- Patriots are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. AFC.

Point-Spreads.com NFL Prediction: New England Patriots vs Kansas City Chiefs – KC Chiefs +16
The Bottom Line: A 16-point spread for QB Tom Bradys’ first game back is a little steep for me. Their defense is unproven as well, no matter how bad KC may be.
