The NFL season gets under way tomorrow night with what should be an epic battle between the defending Super Bowl Champion Giants and their NFC East rival, the Washington Redskins. The game kicks off at 7:00pm ET and will be broadcast live on NBC. NFL Week 1 Picks at SBGglobal.com have the Giants as a -4 home favorite. The Giants enter this season as the improbable winners of Super Bowl XLII. Nobody forecasted New York's amazing post-season run, but as a result of it, teams will be marking them from day one this season. The Giants championship roster did experience some turnover though, as they lost four starters and one key reserve in the off-season. The team also suffered a big loss when defensive end Osi Umenyiora went down in exihibition play with a season ending knee injury. Aside from the these changes, the team will again have to deal with a loaded NFC East. The Redskins floundered for much of the 2007 season under Head Coach Joe Gibbs. However, after the murder of safety Shawn Taylor, the team rallied together and finished the year out in strong fashion and earned a spot in the playoffs. Gibbs stepped down at the conclusion of the the season, and Owner Daniel Synder named former Seahawks quarterback Jim Zorn as his successor. Zorn will be working with a talented squad and he should help continue the development of quarterback Jason Campbell. Key Matchup: How the Giants ravaged defensive line performs against the Redskins veteran offensive line will be critical to New York's success. If the Giants fail to get pressure on Campbell then he could exploit their secondary. New York has a combination of youth and veteran experience in the defensive backfield, but as a whole they are not the strongest group in the league. Off-season signee Sammy Knight is a solid run defender, but he can be a liability in the passing game. NFL Week 1 Trends: The Giants are 4-1 SU and ATS in week one of the season over the past five years. SBGglobal.com's NFL Week 1 Picks line: Washington Redskins +4 (-110), Over 41 (-110), +175 (Money line) New York Giants -4 (-110), Under 41 (-110), -210 (Money line) Get on board for an entire season of NFL Picks; we are prepped and ready to storm through the 2008 NFL schedule.
