 The 2008 NFL season gets kicked off on Thursday, September 4th when the Washington Redskins head to New York to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Giants. Two big injuries on the defensive side of the ball are making big news as Jason Taylor and Osi Umenyiora both were injured in week 3 of the preseason. Taylor's injury isn't quite as bad as Umenyiora, who will be lost for the season, but Taylor is in doubt for this week 1 match-up.
These teams got off to very different starts a year ago, when the Giants came out of the gate with two straight losses while the Redskins started off 2-0. That changed when the two teams played each other, giving Washington their first loss and New York their first win. Both teams finished off the season on a strong note, the Giants of course won the Super Bowl, but the Redskins went under the radar in winning their last four regular season games to sneak into the playoffs before losing to Seattle.
For Giants fans who are wondering what their chances are of repeating, the good news is that the team returns every offensive starter and almost everyone on defense. Interesting enough, the Redskins didn't lose any starters either, so if these teams stay healthy, it's reasonable to believe they will both be fighting it out in the playoffs.
Both the Giants and Redskins know that every single game matters, especially since the NFC East had three playoff teams a year ago and the Philadelphia Eagles are definitely improved, which should make for an exciting NFL betting season in 2008.
