Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys starters had their final regular season
tuneup last Saturday in Dallas. Wade Phillips' squad lost the game 20-13 to the Forty-Niners, but did lead 10-3 at the half.
Phillips will not play any first stringers this evening, electing to more closely examine which reserves he would like to keep on the final 53 man roster.
"Once you get past that first group, it's not really how the second group plays. It's how the individual plays," Phillips said. "You're looking for guys who can contribute to the first team, basically."
Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings coaching staff, like the Cowboys, has seen all it needs to see out of the starting unit. Thus, the Minnesota first teamers will not see the field tonight.
The Vikings starters looked outstanding on Monday night, beating Houston 17-10 at Reliant Stadium. Brett Favre completed 13-of-18 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown while running back Adrian Peterson had 11 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown. The defense also showed nicely, limiting the Texans to 268 yards of offense.
This evening, however, will be all about the backups and giving some of the younger players a chance to show their wares.
"This is what these guys dream of doing," Head Coach Brad Childress said. "I want to make sure they put their best foot forward and give some of the younger guys an opportunity to play."
